What is the definition of Physical health and wellbeing?
Physical - Good physical health means good body weight, doing regular exercise, no disease/illness, good sleep patterns, low cholesterol levels and low blood pressure.
What is the definition of social health and wellbeing?
The ability to form meaningful relationships with others, the ability to adapt appropriately to different social situations.
What is the definition of Emotional health and wellbeing?
The ability to recognize, manage and express emotions as well as showing resilience.
What is the definition of Mental health and wellbeing?
Optimal mental health enables a person to positively form opinions, make decisions and use logic. Associated with low stress levels, anxiety, positive self esteem and confidence.
What is the definition of Spiritual health and wellbeing?
Relates to a person’s ideas, beliefs and values. Includes the concept of hope, peace and a guiding sense of meaning or value. A person having a sense of belonging and purpose in life.
What is one factor that relates to each dimension?
Physical - Exercise and food intake
Social - Stong communication skills and strong support network
Emotional - Recognizing a range of emotions, being able to show resilience after misfortune
Mental - Any life events, high self esteem
Spiritual - Finding meaning through contributes to society and experiencing peace
What is Burden of disease?
Measure of the impact of diseases and injury, measures the gap between current health status and what age someone would live to free of disease and disability.
What is DALY
Disability adjusted life year- A measure of overall burden of disease and injury expressed as the number of healthy years of life the person has lost due to illness/premature death
What is health?
A state of complete physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual wellbeing and the absence of disease or infirmity
What does life expectancy mean?
The number of years of life remaining to a person at a particular age if death rates don’t change.
What does mortality mean?
The number of deaths in a population in a given time period
What does morbidity mean?
Refers to the ill health of an individual and the levels of ill health in a population
What does incidence mean?
The number of new cases of a condition in a given time period
What does prevalence mean?
The total number of cases of a condition at a given time period
