Elimination – physically remove the hazard
Substitution – replace the hazard

What is RIDDOR?
It stands for the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995. These regulations came into force on 1st April 1996.

What are the key principles of the Health and Safety at work Act 1974
- The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britain.
- It sets out the general duties which:
- employers have towards employees and members of the public
- employees have to themselves and to each other
- certain self-employed have towards themselves and others
What are the key principles of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- It provides a framework for regulating fire safety in all non-domestic premises including workplaces and the parts of multi-occupied residential buildings used in common in England and Wales.
- Places the responsibility on individuals within an organisation to carry out risk assessments to identify, manage and reduce the risk of fire.

What is a notifiable project?
A project needs to comply with one of the following:
- 30 days and over with 20 or more workers at any one point or
- 500 person days
What is an F10?
It is a notification form that needs to be submitted to the HSE if a project is notifiable.

What are the Client’s duties under CDM 2015?
Make suitable arrangements for managing a project, including making sure:
- other duty holders are appointed as appropriate
- sufficient time and resources are allocated
Make sure:
- relevant information is prepared and provided to other duty holders
- the principal designer and principal contractor carry out their duties
- welfare facilities are provided
What are the Principal designer’s duties under CDM 2015?
Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase of a project.
This includes:
- Identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks
- Ensuring designers carry out their duties
- Prepare and provide relevant information to other duty holders.
- Liaise with the principal contractor to help in the planning, management, monitoring
and coordination of the construction phase.
What are the Principal Contractor’s duties under CDM 2015?
Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the construction phase of a project.
This includes:
- liaising with the client and principal designer
- preparing the construction phase plan
- organising cooperation between contractors and coordinating their work
Make sure:
- suitable site inductions are provided
- reasonable steps are taken to prevent unauthorised access
- workers are consulted and engaged in securing their health and safety
- welfare facilities are provided
What are the Contractor’s duties under CDM 2015?
Plan, manage and monitor construction work under their control so it is carried out without risks to health and safety.
For projects involving more than one contractor, coordinate their activities with others in the project team
