How does a white blood cell protect you against a disease?
Some white blood cells ingest pathogens and destroying them
Some produce antibodies, which connect to the antigen on the pathogen and quickly destroying it
Some produce antitoxins, which counteracts the toxins released by pathogens
Why do we need food?
Food energy to work our muscles
Growth and repair
Stay healthy
What is vaccination?
Vaccination is when you put small amounts of a dead or inactive pathogen inside your body, making your white blood cells react. The White blood cells make antibodies to help fight this disease. When the disease comes, white blood cells remember what antibodies are needed in order to stop the disease from spreading
What is a drug?
A substance that you put in your body that is a painkiller and makes you feel better
What are the three nerves called?
Sensory nerve, motor nerve, relay nerve
How do nerves work?
Stimulus, receptor, sensory nerve, synapses, relay nerve, synapse, motor nerve, effector, response
What are hormones?
Hormones are slo/chemical messengers which are produced in the gland and are released into the bloodstream. They only affect target cells
What are FSH, progesterone and LH?
FSH - Follicle Stimulating Hormone helps egg mature and prepares for release
LH - Luteinising hormone stimulates ovulation
Progesterone - keeps the thickness of womb lining
What is IVF?
IVF is one of several techniques to help couples with fertility problems to have a baby. An egg and sperm are removed from the body and is fertilised in a laboratory. It’s then put back into the woman’s womb, where it develops.
