Genetics Flashcards
Where are your genes found?
They are found in chromosomes in your cells
What’s causes variation?
Genes
How many chromosomes do we have, how many genes in these chromosomes?
We have 46 different chromosomes in a human, humans have 20000 genes
In fertilisation, how many chromosomes are added to make a baby?
Both parents give 23 chromosomes to there offspring, making them have 46
What are the two types of reproduction?
Asexual-one parent, no variation, offspring known as clones
Sexual-two parents involved, variation
What are the two ways of cloning?
Adult cell cloning
Embryo cell cloning
What is selective breeding?
Selected animals/plants are breeder to create the best of the best
What is genetic engineering?
Removing a gene from one living organism to put it into another
What is evolution? How do we know?
Darwin brought up the theory in the 1800’s, believing in a mutation that benefitted or was against the plant/animal. We can see this through fossils and see if the animals have change overtime
