healing and repair Flashcards
what is resolution?
the desired healing process that can happen if:
1. initiating factor is removed
2. tissue is able to regenerate
what is repair?
underside healing process that happens if:
1. initiating factor is still present
2. tissue is unable to regenerate
what happens to tissue that undergoes repair?
Replacement of damaged tissue by fibrous tissue
give 3 examples of cells that can regenerate?
Hepatocytes
Pneumocytes
All blood cells
give 2 examples of cells that can not regenerate?
Myocardial cells
Neurones
what is healing by 1st intention?
when an incision has caused very little damage to the tissues on either side of the cut, and the two sides can be brought together accurately, the healing is quick
you see this in surgery
what is healing by 2nd intention?
when the cut is too deep so it cannot be healed by bringing the edges accurately back together, it has to heal by 2nd intention. Granulation tissue fills in defects and repair specialised tissues lost. long process that results in scarring
