Healing Flashcards
Inflammatory response
Begins immediately
Lasts 2-4 days
Critical to healing, if impeded normal healing cannot take place
3 phases of healing
Inflammatory response
Fibroblastic repair
Maturation - remodelling
SHARP
Swelling Heat Altered function Redness Pain
2 events in inflammatory process
Vascular reaction- platelet plug, blood coagulation, growth of fibrous tissue
2. Formation of clot- helps to localize injury process
Remodelling phase
Long term
PIER
Pressure- increases pressure on blood vessels making it harder for fluid to leak out
Ice - causes vasoconstriction therefore reduces the amount of swelling
Elevation- uses gravity to assist fluid drainage in the area
Rest- ceases damage to the area by not placing stress on injured structures
