Severe and unbearable unilateral headaches, usually around the eye (preorbital) with autonomic features

- most disabling primary headache

Signs and symptoms

A

crescendo unilateral preorbital excruciating pain, may affect temples too
Autonomic features + face flushing
- conjunctival infection + lacrimation (watery bloodshot eye)
- Rhinorrhea
Horner’s syndrome:
- ptosis (droopy eye)
- miosis (dilated unilateral pupil)
- anhidrosis (lack of sweating)

Treatment

A

Acute = TRIPTANS (Sumatriptan) + High flow 100% O2 for 15-20 mins
Prophylaxis = CCB = VERAPIMIL
