Management of migraines - General measures
- Biopsychosocial support
- Lower pain, avoid triggers, stress management
- Identify & control trigger
- Sleep - bed rest if acute; ensure not too much or too little sleep
Management of migraines - Manual Therapy
- less clearly of use; neck stiffness may be a trigger
- soft tissue to tender muscles
- Hydrotherapy - heat, full immersion baths prior to attack may abort headache. Cold pack during acute attack applied to neck and scalp
Management tension HA - General measures
- Biopsychosocial support
- pain management, cold or hot packs
- cervical pillow/supportive mattress
- stress reduction
Management of tension HA - Manual Therapy
- Soft tissue massage to tender muscles
- MET & stretching to cervical muscles
- Treatment of other regions as indicated
Management Cervicogenic HA
- Soft tissue
- MET of Cervical joints and musculature
- HVLA
- Postural & ergonomic advice
- stress management
