what is a sialogram?
injection of contrast medium into the salivary duct
what is a Sinogram?
injection of contrast media into sinus
what is an oesophageal pouch?
protrusions from the oesophagus that cause swallowing difficulties and regurgitation
what is a Parotid calculus?
Stone in parotid duct
Face will swell after eating
Most stones pass themselves
what is sialectasis?
cystic dilation of the ducts of salivary glands.
what is a Blom-Singer valve assessment used for?
allows patient to speak with more ease after a total laryngectomy
when is a node likely malignant when observed through ultrasound?
not oval, and no fat in centre(pale)
what is a Parathyroid adenoma ?
benign tumor of the parathyroid gland. It generally causes hyperparathyroidism
what is a Sestamibi scan used for?
localize parathyroid adenoma
what investigations are best used for the different parts of the ear?
middle ear-Ct ideal as bones and gas
Inner ear- use MRI as soft tissues
external ear visible vie endoscope
what is atresia?
absence or abnormal narrowing of an opening or passage in the body ie EAC
