Risk factors for head and neck cancer?
Male Smoking Alcohol EBV - nasopharyngeal HPV - oropharyngeal and oesophageal
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, who gets it?
Asian populations, also associated with EBV infection.
Most common nasopharyngeal tumour?
Squamous cell carcinoma.
Presentation of nasal tumours?
Unilateral nasal congestion +./- bleeding.
New chronic sinusitis in older patient.
1st line investigation of suspected nasal tumour?
Rhinoscopy and biopsy.
Starting is MRI.
Mainstay of treatment of nasopharyngeal tumours?
Radiotherapy.
Most common type of oropharyngeal tumour?
Squamous cell carcinoma.
Most common type of laryngeal cancer?
Squamous cell carcinoma.
Investigation and staging of laryngeal cancer:
1st line = laryngoscopes and biopsy.
Staging = neck CT.
Presentation of laryngeal cancer?
Progressive hoarsness
Haemoptysis
Dysphasia
Otalgia.
Management of laryngeal cancer?
Laryngeal sparing or total laryngectomy,
Chemo-radiotherapy can be used as an alternative in advanced disease.
