Head And Neck Anatomy Flashcards
Blood supply to the thyroid
Aterial: superior thyroid (external carotid artery) inferior thyroid (thyrocervical trunk)
Venous: superior, middle, inferior
Innervation of the larynx
Motor - R.laryngeal except cricothyroid which is supplied by the superior laryngeal
Sensory
- internal branch of superior laryngeal nerve above folds
- recurrent laryngeal nerve below folds
Anterior triangle of the neck
Anterior margin of the SCM
Midline
Ramus of the mandible
Roof: inverting fascia
Submandibular triangle
Mental process
Ramus of the mandible
Line between two angles of the mandible
Posterior triangle of the neck
Posterior margin of SCM
Anterior margin of trapezius
Middle 1/3 of clavicle
Branches of the external carotid artery
Superior thyroid Ascending pharyngeal Lingual Facial Occipital Posterior auricular Superficial temporal Maxillary
Some anatomist like fornaicatik other prefer s&m
Path of facial nerve
- Medulla
- Emerges between pons and medulla
- Travel in internal auditory canal
- Exits internal auditory canal and geniculate ganglion in the middle ear
- Transverse the length of the temporal bone giving off 3 branches: greater superficial petrosal, nerve to the stapedius and corda tympani
- Exits temporal bone via stylomastoid foramen and runs into the parotid gland
- Gives of muscle to belly of digastric and stylohyoid before dividing into 5 motor branches: temporal, zygomatic, buccal, mandibular and cervical
Different types of neck fascia
Superficial - platysma
Investing - complelty surround neck and encloses SCM and trapezius
Pre-vertebral: surrounds vertebral column and associated muscles
Pre-tracheal: surrounds trachea, oesophagus and thyroid
Carotid sheath: surround internal carotid, internal jugular and CNX
