HC3-The role of inclusive leadership in fostering well-being and performance (gastcollege Marloes van Engen) Flashcards
lessons learned from the grapes
-just taking a minute of mindful observation will make you remember unique characteristics of your grape
-imagine what dialogue or conversation lead to
diversity as a term of composition
it is about the mix of people in terms of all characteristics.
Therefore you can look different:
- if there are two groups: separation.
2.But also think of variety: every individual has another characteristics.
- Also disparity: if there are many people, there are many skills and knowledge. Increase innovation, diversity stimulates this creativity and innovation.
Seperation
polarized, one group on one end, other on the other end. Outcomes: reduced cohesiveness, more interpersonal conflict, distrust, decreased task performance
Variety
Uniform, with each individual representing a different categoty across all possible categories. Outcomes: increased creativity, innovation, higher decision quality, more task conflict
Disparity
Positively skewed with one member at the highest point and others at the lowest outcomes: status hierarchy, conformity, suppression of open communication, withdrawal
Inclusion
Is a behaviour, recognising, valuing an dfully leveraging the diversity of others to create a culture that promotes equality and delivers results
shore (2009) model
1: exlusion: individual is not treated as an organizational insider with unique value in the work group but there are other employees or groups who are insiders.
- Assimilation: individual is trated as an insider in the workgroup when they conform to dominant culture norms. High belonging, low unique wearing what everyone else is looking. So you become ‘one’ but no uniqueness.
- Differentiation: individual is not treated as an organizational insider, but their characteristics are seen. Low belonging, high unique
- Inclusion: individual is treated as an insider and also allowed to retain uniqueness
Inclusion
A way of actively valuing differences and using them constructively in all aspects of organizational life
