What does the nervous system consist of?
The brain, the spinal cords, and neurons
What are neurons?
Nerve cells that behave like electrical wires that send and receive signals throughout the body
What does the nervous system control?
The functions of the body and receives, and processes stimuli from the environment
Cerebrum
Major part of the brain that is the center of intelligence. I
t’s responsible for seeing, hearing, and thinking.
Cerebellum
Big cluster of nerve tissue that forms the basis for the brain.
It’s responsible for balance, movement and muscle coordination
Medulla
Part of the brainstem that is the connection between the brain and the spinal cord.
It’s responsible for breathing, swallowing and the beating of the heart
Spinal cord
Major connecting center between the brain and network of nerves.
It’s responsible for carrying impulses between all organs and the brain
