Q

difference between parallel and series circuits and advantages and disadvantages?

A
  • parallel= several current paths pro= if there is a problem with one path in circuit it can go down another current path co=cannot increase voltage since resistance is decreased
  • series= have one current path pro=greater voltage con= if one part of the circuit fails the whole thing fails

Q

What is the differences and pros and cons of dry batteries wet batteries and primary and secondary cells?

A
  • dry battery = electric battery wet battery= pro= size is more suitable, con= can explode
wet battery = rechargeable battery= con, regular maintenance, pro, affordable
secondary cell= rechargeable battery pro, higher power density con safety issues
primary cell= a battery that can only be used once con, more expensive, easier to make

Q

how do AC and Dc generators work and how do AC and Dc motors work?

A

Generaters:
AC= alternating current periodically changes direction
Dc= current only flows one direction

Motors
dc= armeture is attracted and repelled by stationary and field magnetsso it rotates
ac=, when turned on attraction and repulsion between magnetic poles in rotors and stators is what keeps it rotating

Q

what are the parts of generators and motors and their purposes?

A
  • armature= conduct current over the field
  • magnets= induces an emf in coil

brushes=conducts current between stationary wires and moving parts
commutators= current always flows in one direction

Q

how do we generate electricity in thermos-electric, hydro-electric, nuclear electric, wind electric, solar electric, tidal electric, geothermal electric

A

thermos electric= environmental friendly, cannot freeze items
hydro electic= expensive, clean water
nuclear electric= through nuclear fission, sustainable, high energy density, expensive
wind electric=, clean fuel source, noise pollution energy
solar electric , renewable, does not work at night
tidal electric= movement of water to push turbine, few suitable sites, high energy density
geothermal electic= renewable, expensive
