Discrimination – definition
An act, practice or pattern of behavior based on an individual’s race, sex, religion, etc. which has an adverse impact on an individual or identifiable group compared to members of other identifiable groups
Harassment – definition
Any conduct based on an individual’s (status) that has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with their work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment

Retaliation – definition
A form of harassment against an individual who has complained, assisted or participated in complaints of harassment or discrimination
Every supervisor has responsibility to prevent acts of harassment or discrimination by:
Monitoring work environment
Refraining from participating
Counseling all members on rules and reporting
Stopping any observed acts
Taking action to limit work contact between two involve members
Reporting all complaints to Employment Diversity Section
When not a diversity issue, the following alternate forms of resolution are available:
Mediation
Conflict resolution
Internal affairs Bureau
Discrimination is broken down into adverse impact and disparate treatment.
Define each
Adverse impact: employment practices that unintentionally and adversely impact members of a protected class
Disparate treatment: intentional adverse treatment of an individual based on his belonging to a protected class
Retaliation occurs when an individual has:
Complained, assisted or participated in matters of harassment/discrimination
Been subjected to adverse employment action’s
And a causal link exist between the two
Employment diversity section provides a mandatory diversity training for supervisors. How often do supervisors attend?
Biennially – every second year
A complainant of harassment or discrimination will contact any supervisor, Employment Diversity Section or Internal Affairs and make their complaint within HOW MANY DAYS of the last incident?
