•Prisoners arrested at home, handcuffed taken to police station by real police
•Fingerprinted then blindfolded and taken to mock prison.

What was the role of the guard in haneys study?
To maintain reasonable control, not let anyone escape but not to use physical force
How were results recorded in haneys study?
Through observation but backed up by video and audio tape, dialogue, questionnaire, interview and self report
What were haneys findings?
•90% of the conversations by the prisoners were about the situation.
•Similar guards talked about “problem prisoners”
•Study stopped at day 6 for being too brutal
•5 prisoners released due to extreme depression crying rage and acute anxiety
What were the conclusions from haneys study?
Social roles and due to situational factors that says the environment of the prison leads to brutal behaviour.
