The idea of punishment as a way of shaping behavior is a type of operant conditioning coming from skinner.

A way of response stimulus where undesirable behaviour is reduced through negative reinforcement of punishment.

Overcrowding

What can being in a prison lead to for inmates?
Anxiety and depression.

What did Dooley (1990) report about prisons?
The suicide rate of prisoners is four times more than the general population.
If a prisoner has an unpleasant experience, they will learn from this consequence and what is most likely to happen?
Them not to reoffend due to prison being a negative enforcer

1 in 4 prisoners reoffend committing over 50,000 crimes.
