- Involving threats of suicide which are vague, non-violent, or where no immediate threat of harm is suggested or implied.*

- Subject has been transported to the hospital and officers are needed for report purposes only.
* CIT will respond if an individual has a reported or diagnosed mental illness or escalating or volatile circumstances suggesting immediate presence of CIT offer may be beneficial.

The department will adhere to the following principles regarding the mentally ill: (2)
- Standing alone, mental illness does not signify a special police response. A mentally ill person has a righto be left alone so long as no crime has been committed.
- No person is to be taken involuntarily into police custody by reason of mental illness alone, but rather is to be treated like any other citizen and taken into custody only if such person has also committed an offense which necessitates arrest, or presents a danger to themselves or others.
Mental petitions are similar to arrest warrants; however, when taking a person into civil custody the level of force used must be balanced with these facts: (3)

District Court Ordered Admissions:
CIT patrol officers will:
- Obtain District Court order for admission from Detention Record Bureau.
- Contact the Mental Health Professional, Case Worker, or family member.
