What are pullers used for?
Pullers are used for: removing hubs, bearings, sprockets and couplings
What are two main types of hydraulic jacks?
The portapower and hydraulic jack
These are used to move loads short distances.

Chemical cleaning:
Alcohol cleaning
Solvent cleaning
High pressure water or steam cleaning
Mechanical cleaning:
Abrasive cleaning
Barrel finishing or tumbling

What psi should ferrous metals be cleaned at when using abrasive cleaning?
What psi should non ferrous metals be cleaned at?
Ferrous metals - 60 to 100 psi
Non Ferrous metals - 10 to 60 psi
What are the main abrasive product used?
Emery - ferrous metals
Crocus - rapid removal of metal or fine polishing
Aluminum oxide - rapid metal removal on ferrous materials
Silicone carbide - polish non-ferrous and ferrous metals when high quality finish is required.
Abrasive papers and clothes -
What is the purpose of lapping?
To obtain exceptionally true surfaces and accurate dimensions.
Improves flatness
Improves surface finish and produces very accurate dimensions
Improves wear life on component
Provides sealing surfaces that do not need gaskets
What part of a tap does most of the cutting?
Taper or chauffeur.
What is the purpose of the flute on a tap?
To provide space for chips to accumulate and a passage for the cutting fluid
What is the land of a tap?
The portion of the tap not cut away by the flutes
What is a tap wrench used for?
To turn the tap into the hole.
What are the 3 taps and there uses?
Taper: used first as it self centre’s in the whole. Can be used on its own if the whole passes through.
Plug tap: use second after taper tap
Bottoming tap: no taper on the end. Used for adding thread to the bottom of a blind hole.
What is a serial tap?
Taps used to cut difficult materials
What percentage of of the thread is left in the whole?
75%
What is the taper on a pipe thread?
3/4 inch per foot and has a 60 degree thread angle
What is a perfect fit for a pipe thread?
3-4 threads by hand
3-4 threads with wrench
4 threads still exposed
