How would you carry out a DP hand?
Place hands flat, and centering point is head of the 3rd metacarpal

When would you do a DP oblique hand?
- check trauma
- fractures usually including metacarpals
- tumor
- foreign body
How to carry out a DP oblique hand?
put hands at an angle, making sure thumb and fingers flat.
centering point is: head of the 3rd metacarpal
How would you carry out a lateral hand?
put the hand sideways on
centering point: medial aspect of the head of the 2nd metacarpal
Why would you carry out a lateral hand?
indicates the displacement of metacarpal fractures
to see where a foreign body is positioned
How to carry out DP both hands?
Put both hands flat, thumbs touching one another.
Centring point: midway between the lateral border of the thumbs of the 2nd metacarpal head
When would you carry out DP both hands?
to check for rheumatoid arthritis
What are the finger projections you could do?
dorsipalmer and lateral
Where is the centering point always for finger projections?
over the metacarpophalangeal joint
Where is the centering point always for thumb projections?
over the 1st metacarpophalangeal joint
What thumb projections would you do?
- lateral
- anterior posterior
- posterior anterior
What’s the difference between PA AND AP for thumb?
for PA you keep it flat and straight normal but for AP you have to flip the thumb over
