Forearm Flashcards
What is supination?
when the forewarn is facing upright, palm of hand up
What is pronation?
when the forearm is facing downwards, palm of hand down
What is a mid shaft fracture in your forearm?
The radius and the ulna are completely shattered, can be either one of them .
What do you have to remember about mid shaft fractures when x-ray?
Be sure to do a lateral to see the full view, not always visible in an AP
What is a monteggia fracture?
a fracture of the proximal third of the ulna with dislocation of the radial head.
What is a galezzi fracture?
a fracture of the distal third of the radius with dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint
How does a mid shaft fracture look like?
the shaft of the ulna and radius are broken, cracked
How does a monteggia fracture look like?
more proximal part of the ulna is shattered
The radial head (that has no attachments like ulna) is moved, wrong place
What to remember about the radius and ulna?
at the wrist, radius big and then smaller
at the wrist ulna small, and then big joins everything together
How does a Galezzi fracture look like?
The higher more closer to the wrist distal part of radius is shattered
and the radioulnar joint (joining the radius and ulnar together) is dislocated,
ulna and radius no longer connected properly
where is radial head?
more proximal, closest to elbow.
