Type 1- Soft tissue only
Type 2- Soft tissue + nail
Type 3- Soft tissue + nail + bone Type 4- Proximal 1⁄3 of phalanx Type 5- proximal to DIPj
what is a boxer’s fracture?
fracture of the neck of the 5th finger metacarpal
what is the treatment for a boxer’s fracture?
buddy strap - strapping 4th and 5th fingers together
what is mallet finger?
permanently flexed DIPJ caused by fracture (e.g. avulsion fracture) or soft tissue damage
what is the treatment for mallet finger?
mallet splint for 6 weeks
wire can be used for large displaced avulsion
what is a bennett’s fracture?
fracture + dislocation of metacarpal at the base of the thumb
