TRANEXAMIC ACID TXA

A

INDICATED: Time critical injury pts where sigificant int/external haemorrhage is suspected.
Injured pts fulfilling local step 1 or 2 trauma triage protocol.

ACTION: Is an anti - fibrinolytic which reduces the breakdown of blood clot.

CONTRA: Isolated head inj, Critical interventions req, Bleeding now stopped.

SIDE EFFECTS: Rapid injection might rarely cause hypotension.

SYNTOMETINE SYN

A

INDICATED: Postpartum haemorrhage within 24 hrs of delivery, where bleeding of uterus is uncontrollable by uterine massage.

Miscarriage with life threatening bleeding and confirmed diagnosis.

ACTION: Stimulates contraction of the uterus.
Onset of action 7-10 mins

CONTRA: Known hypersensitivity
Active labour
Severe cardiac, liver/ kidney diease
Poss, multi preg / known or suspected fetus in utero.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea / vomiting
Abdo pain, Headache, Hyperetension and bradycardia. Chest pain and rarely anaphylactic reactions.
