Haemopoiesis Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 steps of Haemopoiesis? and what happens?
A
TOO MUCH PDA
- Proliferation (multiplication)
- Differentiation (change shape)
- Apoptosis (cell death)
2
Q
What regulates haemopoiesis?
A
Growth factors
- Colony stimulating
- Interleukins
3
Q
What do growth factors stop?
A
they stop apoptosis.
4
Q
Where are these growth factors made?
A
Glycoproteins
5
Q
Where are glycoproteins produced?
A
- Stromal cells
- T lymphocytes
- Liver
- Kidney
6
Q
Where are haemopoietic stem cells from?
A
Originally formed in the mesoderm (then stored in marrow)
7
Q
Why are haemopoietic stem cells rare? (and give 4 facts)
A
- 1:20 million ratio of stem cell vs normal cell
- their phenotype is unknown (CD34+, CD 38-, negative linage)
- able to self renew
- look like small lymphocytes
- can always find its way back to the bone marrow
