Define massive transfusion
A
replacement of >1 blood volume (av 20 units) in <24 hours
or >2 x circulating volume in paeds
Components PRBC, Plt, FFP

What is the circulating volume of blood in neonates?
A
80-90ml/kg

When would you transfuse PRBC?
A
- acute blood loss (15% TBV)
- asymptomatic but Hb <8
- Symptoms of anaemia at rest
- in neonates if preop Hb<15g/dl

What antibodies would be present in type AB blood?
A
none - which is why they can take all other blood type donors
