A

What micro haematocrit tubes should be used?

A

RED - when taking blood from patient and putting straight into a tube - to prevent clotting.

BLUE - when taking blood from an EDTA sample - plain tube.

A

10,000rpm for 5 minutes on PCV setting

What is the purpose of performing a blood smear?

A

To examine the red and white blood cells. Their size, shape, colour.

Can identify:
- Different abnormalities of RBC and WBC
- Total wbc counts count the total number of wbc/litre of blood
- Differential wbc count looks at the percentage of each type of wbc present compared to the other wbc
