Iron deficiency (malabsorption) / pernicious (autoimmune)
What drugs are sickle cell patients on long-term
Hydroxycarbamide, folic acid, penicillin
Causes of sickle cell crisis
Cold weather, hypoxia, dehydration, acidosis
How is a sickle cell crisis managed?
Oxygen, analgesia, empirical antibiotics, IV fluids

Autosomal recessive
What is a heterozygous sickle cell patient called?
Sickle cell trait
Why do signs of sickle cell anaemia only begin to show at 6 months of age
