H: blood Flashcards
Erythrocytes
- 99% of all blood cells
- No organelles
- Circular, biconcave
- Easily deform to fit in capillaries
- Lifespan - 120 days
- Haemoglobin carry oxygen
Granulocytes (WBC)
- Single nucleus
- 3 types: Basophils (mast cells in tissues), Eosinophils, Neutrophils (capable of phagocytosis)
(BEN)
Agranulocytes
- No granules
- Non-lobed
- 2 types: lymphocytes, monocytes.
Eosinophils
- Bilobed nucleus
- Used in mucosal inflammation, allergic response, parasitic worms.
Basophils
Bilobed nucleus
Granules contain: histamine, heparin, serotonin
Use in allergic hypersensitivity reactions
Lymphocyte
Round nucleus
Small cytoplasm
Monocyte
Precursor of macrophage
Large indented nucleus.
Platelet
Anuclear
Many granules
Reticulocyte
No nucleus
Organelles present
Rank the 5 different types of WBCs in relative abundance
Neutrophils > Lymphocytes > Monocytes > Eosinophils > Basophils
