Rise must be the same for each step, the first step is reduced by the tread thickness

what adjustments are made at the top of the stringer and why?
Adjustments will vary depending upon how the stringer is attached to the floor framing
If a stringer support boards is the finished riser, the cut line is adjusted by the thickness of the riser
what should the depth of the gain be for housed stringers?
1/2”, gives adequate bearing for a well-fastened tread and does not substantially weaken the stringer
what causes squeaks in stairs?
stringers or treads rubbing against the wall, they must be either be spaced so they are not in contact or
be fastened hard with adhesive and strong fasteners
where are glue blocks installed?
at the joints of the tread and riser boards as you install up the staircase
what is the primary concern for handrails and guards?
Safety, they must be very strong and be able to resist heavy lateral forces
what is the maximum spacing for handrail brackets?
1.2m apart
minimum and maximum handrail height for stairs?
865mm to 1070mm height above the nosing line
what is guard height set at?
1070mm above landing, same as max handrail height
900mm for within dwelling unit
are you allowed to use 2x4 or 2x6 for handrails?
not allowed laying flat, must be continually flat and user must be able to grip the rail without having to stretch their hand
