Q

Name the advantages and disadvantages of a Gyrocompass

A
  • Can be place almost anywhere there is space.
  • Repeaters are easily connected.
  • It can interface with equipment such as autopilot, stabilisers, Radar, ARPA
  • It is more accurate than magnetic compass.
  • It gives a steady reading with far less movement in a seaway.
  • Reliant on power source, may take time to resettle after power failure.
  • Prone to cumulative errors if subjected to high speed manoeuvring.
  • Incorrect readings may not be immediately obvious.
