A
  • Small drop like salmon pink papule with a fine scale
  • Usually occurs on trunk and proximal extremities
  • Can be caused by GAS infection
  • Can be unrelated

  • In individuals younger than 30
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Mostly associated with a strep infection

Guttate Psoriasis Presentation

A
  • Multiple, discrete, drop-like, salmon-pink patches with fine scale
  • Acute onset
  • Antecedent streptococcal infection in most cases
  • FHx of psoriasis
  • Nail changes usually absent (more associated with chronic)
  • Palms and soles rarely affected
  • Mild itching
  • Improves during summer worse during winter

  • Usually self-limiting within a few weeks without treatment, reassurance and emollients may be sufficient
  • Phototherapy
  • Topical treatment may be difficult due to extent of lesions

  • Can go on to develop chronic plaque

- Can be recurrent due to pharyngeal carriage of strep
