BCC Definition
A
- Slow growing, locally invasive, malignant epidermal skin tumour thought to arise from hair follicles
- Metastasis rare

BCC Epidemiology
A
-Predominantly affects caucasians, very uncommon in dark-skinned races

BCC RFs
A
- Genetic predisposition and sun exposure
- Increasing age, male sex, skin types I and II

BCC Presentation
A
- Head and neck most common sites
- Early lesions often small, translucent or pearly, raised areas with telangiectasia
- Classic rodent ulcer

BCC Types
A
- Nodular (60-80%, solitary, shiny, red nodule with telangiectasia)
- Superficial (10-30% erythematous plaque with clear borders)
- Morphoeic (yellow plaque)
- Pigmented
- Basosquamous (mixed)

A
- Intradermal naevus
- Discoid eczema
- Malignant melanoma

A
- Routine referral
- Only urgent if suspicious site or size

-Biopsy

A
- Conventional surgery if not in cosmetically challenging place
- Mohs surgery if in cosmetically challenging place
