Q

Explain the control of motility with ACh, Seritonin and Dopamine?

A

How is this controlled?

3 types of neurotransmitters.

Ach works on the M receptors on the longitudinal muscles. Increasing peristalsis and helping things push along. When acting reduction in segmentation. Segmentation is controlled more by the food that is passed through which is stimulated by fatty acids.

Serotonin: acts on the ECL cells through 5ht receptors which causes increase in Ach production, therefore, increase in peristalsis and motility.

Dopamine does the opposite: made by the epithelial cells and acts on D receptors and decreases Ach production.
