Guilt, Anger & the Law of Increase Flashcards
In order to make work a joy, you will have to put down the enormous boulders that you unthinkingly shoulder – – guilt and blame.
Guilt and blame are terrible burdens to carry. As long as you do, your hands are not free to pick up the better things in life.
Everyone always acts in their perceived self interest. It is a law of nature.
Accept it. Work around it.
Make a list of all those you blame–your coworkers, your family, anybody. Accept that they are acting in their own best interest. Everyone does.
Blaming them is like blaming the law of gravity for letting your camera fall to the ground. We just don’t do it. You just can’t do it.
When you carry anger or guilt or blame inside you, the only person you are damaging is yourself.
From the law of increase, whatever you are truly grateful for and appreciate will increase in your life. The universe is like a very sensitive and powerful amplifier. It picks up what you emit, greatly increases its power, and beams it back to you.
If you direct the law of increase effectively, it can be a force multiplier.
If you are frustrated, remember you live in a ‘me’ centered universe and must learn to accept what is being presented to you. Bosses are what they are. So are our customers, co-workers, subordinates and so on.
Your problem is that you insist that they become something else that they resolutely refuse to be.
Do your job in an ‘other’-centered universe.
Make your job nourishing.
Consider the signals you were sending out to be picked up by the universe – – rage, frustration, guilt, fear disgust.
The universe picks up these negative emotions and sends that back to you in the myriad of different ways. Nothing personal – – that’s just the way it operates.
Think of the effects you attitude and emotional tenor are having on the world. Is this the effect you would like to have? Remember how good the appreciation and gratitude exercise felt?
Poor emotions and thought are the exact antithesis and they dont serve you well.
Transform your job so that it is nourishing rather than draining.
Create a network of like-minded individuals who will enrich your work and your life.
Frustration results from spending all of your time focusing on what you don’t have. Be thankful.
Write down a list of what keeps you in your current job and contemplate it.
This is the positive side of the trade off you are making. There are many people who would gladly trade places with you to have your job etc.
In addition, not everything you do during the day is distasteful. There are some parts that are actually fun and rejuvenating.
Think carefully and put down everything that leaves you energized or reenergized.
You’ll be surprised by how long this list becomes. Do this test over two or three days. Just keep the list with you and jot down everything you can think of including the Coke in the vending room machine is really cold etc
Contemplate the good things about your business and your day and your work.
Feel the appreciation emanate out an envelop you.
Focus on what is right with your place of work. Really do it.
Put your heart into it.
The enterprise in which you work is conveying real benefits to someone, somewhere.
Think of the vast web of connections.
Your customers, vendors, communities, the public and the government.
Think grand and helpful – – I am helping construct this wondrous cathedral you see before you when it is finished people come here from many countries to gaze upon its marvels I do it so I can learn how for Trista till I can earn a better living with best effort as an apprentice.
Do the things you love. Connect the dots between people, projects and trends. Analyze your favorite clients. Come up with a strategy for getting more of them.
Use the law of increase as a force multiplier to your advantage.
Adding new skills will rejuvenate your job. Your job performance will improve and you will enjoy your job more.
When you stop explicitly focusing on yourself on what you want and what you don’t have and start focusing on how you can be of service to a larger community, then you set loose very powerful forces.
Your broadcast goes out, gets amplified, and comes right back to you. In fact, this is the most efficient method of truly getting the happiness that you crave.
If you feel awkward, play act, and eventually you will become comfortable with the part and it will become real.
Remember that focus is the key.
Your job makes you miserable if you focus on the myriad things that are wrong with it.
You can start making it totally rejuvenating when you begin by focusing on what is right with it.
Ignore the negative stuff.
You will have many people tell you that when you ignore the horrible things at work, you’re actually helping them continue and perpetuating the status quo. Ignore all this. However, you are doing this for you, not the company you work for.
Everyone, including you, always works in one’s own perceived best self interest. Make this work for you.
Rely on informal networks and affinity groups to get jobs done.
Cultivate kindred spirits one relationship at a time.
Figure out, specifically, what is in that person that resonates with you.
State specific way in which you can help and be useful to that person.
Your communication has to come from your heart. Your offer to help has to be sincere and you should absolutely be prepared to follow through on it.
Don’t try to form a network. Instead allow a network to form around you as described in this exercise. This, in turn, will make your work so much more rejuvenating.
You got an emotional high from it and that is perfectly all right.
It is self interest, but it is enlightened self interest.
