Guilt Flashcards
F: “I a f w g a s, k I j p f t m I a g t k.”
Francis: “I am filled with guilt and shame, knowing I have just prayed for the man I am going to kill.”
F: “S w d w h o b a o t w. N d. T d o h. H c I d b l f a s?”
Francis: “Soldiers were dying with honour on battlefields all over the world. Noble deaths. The deaths of heroes. How could I die by leaping from a steeple?”
Francis feels as though he would let his country down by committing suicide so resolves to join the army. It’s his guilt that saves his life on this occasion.
F: “T g i l a t o m t.”
Francis: “The gun is like a tumour on my thigh.”
The presence of a gun is now enough to make Francis feel guilty.
F: “T i f o t t y G a i m m. B L LS i n i.”
Francis: “Tge innocent faces of the two young Germans appear in my mind. But Larry LaSalle is not innocent.”
Francis explains why he does not feel guilty about killing Larry.
