A
immune mediated demyelination of peripheral nervous system often triggered by an infection

initial symptoms of GB syndrome
A
back/leg pain

characteristic features of GB syndrome
A
progressive symmetrical weakness of all the limbs
- weakness is ascending
reflexes are reduced or absent
sensory symptoms are mild
flaccid weakness and hyporeflexia

investigations for GB syndrome
A
lumbar puncture: rise in protein and normal WCC
nerve conduction studies

management of GB syndrome
A
Supportive care
VTE prophylaxis (pulmonary embolism is a leading cause of death)
IV immunoglobulins (IVIG) first-line
Plasmapheresis is an alternative to IVIG
