SEO keywords
the keywords and phrases in your web content that make it possible for people to find your site via search engines. a website is well optimised for search engines if it “speaks the same language” as its potential visitor base with keywords for SEO that help connect searchers to your site.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.
flowchart
you should make a flowchart when you start. you can map and identify all the pages and touchpoints your ideal visitor would interact with when navigating through your website.
user flow
how you figure out what you need to give (in the form of phrases, paragraphs, or images) to your visitors to keep them from bouncing off your site.
website layout
a pattern (or framework) that defines a website’s structure. it has the role of structuring the informations on a website. it provides clear paths for navigation. good layouts are easy to navigate, simple in scope, and focused on providing a memorable user experience.
60-30-10 rule
rule for creating well-balanced colour palettes. the idea is that 60% of the palette should be dedicated to one colour (usually neutral), the second one (complementary) makes up 30%, and the third (accent) is used for the remaining 10% of the design.
design
logo, font(s), pictures/illustrations, and colours.
content
the key to a good website is to provide relevant content that your readers want. content should answer the question “what’s in it for me?” and also have good keywords.
navigation
the GPS of your website. buttons, text links, pods.
call to action
a set of words that urge your website visitors to take an immediate action on your website. the key is to continuously test what works best for your website and audience. test the placement, size, and colour of these, and make sure you use actionable words.
“F” pattern
follows the natural direction of human eyesight and attention.
Responsive Design
allows the layout to dynamically adjust itself according to the device used. responsiveness means that everything needs to adapt itself on the device, and also the content. it targets the width of each user’s web browser to determine how much space is available and how to display the website.
style coherence
elements can be mixed but it’s important to decide which style each one should have. for images it is more complex.
websites for small businesses
need to show their localisation, communicate about their services, show images of theiir place, etc.
website for online services or app
will likely show how to use the app, direct the euser to the download page, or detail their features.
