Guest Lecture Flashcards
Exudates
protein-rich fluid which which oozes into tissue or onto surfaces - made up of neutrophils and is made up of pus
Transudate
protein-poor fluid permeating tissues in response to hemodynamic factors —> can occur in normal tissues as a response to heart and kidney disease
Anaphylotoxins
C3a and C5a
chemotactic factors
c5a and c3a
opsonin
c3b
acute inflammation
immediate reaction at sites of injury and infection; occurs as a rapid response (within minutes to hours) and has no secificity
- blood vessel permeability changes
- coagulation system and inflam mediators
- opsonization (phagocytosis)
what are the three opsonins mentioned?
- immunoglobulins
- complement byproducts like c3b
- C-reactive protein (CRP)
chronic infection
occurs when stimulus is persistent and doesnt go away, present in autoimmune diseases and viral infections
how is chronic infection different than acute?
- takes longer to develop
- more likely to involve specific recognition through immune response
- cell infiltrate is mainly lymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes
- theres a permanent change in tissue architecture like growth of new vessels, deformity or fibrosis
Granuloma/granulomatous inflammation
masses of immune cells that form at sites of infection or inflammation
