3 Common Causes of Nephrotic Syndrome
Minimal change disease: children, preceded by URI, rx: steroids
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis: African-Americans, HIV/IVDA (heroine)
Membranous nephropathy: Caucasians, HBV, HCV, SLE, gold, penicillamine, malignancy
How do you treat a bleeding HD patient?
DDAVP
How do you diagnoses SBP in peritoneal HD patient?
positive culture OR WBC > 100 with 50% neutrophils
Epididimytis Tx
< 35 yo think STIs - Tx - 250 mg IM ceftriaxone x 1 then doxy 100 mg BID x 10 days
> 35 yo think E Coli - Tx - 250 mg IM ceftriaxone x 1 then levo 500 mg daily x 10 days
Phimosis v Paraphimosis
Phimosis = foreskin cannot be retracted v. paraphimosis = foreskin stuck in retracted position over glands (emergency because compartment syndrome - surgery)
