GU Flashcards
Non-glomerular causes of macroscopic hematuria diagnosis
- Ultrasound
- Cystoscopy
- CT/MRI
Shows hydroureter or not
Ultrasound
Causes include obstruction and reflux
Hydroureter
Determines if reflux is present or not
VCUG
Used for intraluminal lesions (bladder hematomas, bladder cancer)
Cystoscopy
Used in trauma with IV contrast or to see if there are stones (without contrast)
CT scan
From day 1 is unable to get urine out of bladder
Posterior urethral valves
Redundant tissue causing postobstrutive uropathy
Posterior urethral valves
Leads to hyronephrosis because urine can’t get out of bladder
Posterior urethral valves
Oligohydramnios during prenatal care
Posterior urethral valves
Posterior urethral valves wrk up
- Ultrasound > hydronephrosis
- VCUG to r/o reflux
- Insert catheter and get massive urinary output
Never do _________ with hypo and epispadias
Circumcision
Teenager with first alcohol binge. Colicky abdominal pain that spontaneously resolves
Uteropelvic junction obstruction
Ectopic ureters are __________ in boys
Asymptomatic because they always implant above external sphincter
Normal bladder function with constant leak. Never have been dry
Ectopic ureter implants below sphincter
