  1. Social change led to the Industrial Revolution which led to the population increasing X4 between 1800-1900
    2.national newspapers were being introduced and political parties began to organise nationally
    A - political ideas could spread quicker +greater understanding

  1. Disaraeli ( a con leader) feared they wouldn’t get back into power so launched the reform 1867 for popularity and new votes
  2. By 1868 William Gladstone had helped pass the corrupt and illegal practices act which limited the amount of money spent on elections
    A - put wealthy con at a disadvantage
    A+ people primarily didn’t know how much was spent on elections
    Ev - 80% of the pop moved/lived in towns and cities

  1. PM Herbert Asquith became an advocate for women’s suffrage and helped gain them the vote
  2. Introduction of the representation of peoples act 1918 which allowed men over 21
    A - younger generation involved and women over 30 enfranchised showing major progress

  1. In the 1870s and 1880s women were accepted into local government and school board elections and their role during WW1 convinced many they had earned the right to participate in the electoral process nationally
  2. Many parts of the British empire had given women the vote e.g women in NZ ( 1893 ), Australia in ( 1902 ) and some areas of canal in ( 1916 )
    A - Brian’s considered herself “the cradle of democary” don’t want to lose that

    Ev - social change grew trade unions and organisations who represented the working class ( gov couldn’t ignore )
