Adjusted/corrected age
Chronologic age — # of weeks born prematurely (40 weeks — gestational age)
Prematurity = < 37 weeks
Used until 2 years old
How measure height?
0-36 months —> laid down (length)
2 -18 —> standing up (height)
Weight at 6 months
Doubles from birth weight
Weight at 1 year
Triple birth weight
Influence of weight > 1 year

- illness/health
BMI for age - what used for?
Screen for overweight / underweight
Used from 2 years to adulthood
BMI parameters
85% - <95% = overweight (25 - 29.9)
< 5% = underweight (< 18.5)
Teach —> healthy eating, activity, reduced screen time
Growth rate
20 inches —> Average birth length
10 inches —> first year growth
5 inches —> 2nd year growth
2.5 inches —> each year growth until puberty
How tall at 4 years old?
Birth length roughly DOUBLES
Red flags for growth & follow up
Weight —> BMI > 85%
Length/height — <5%
Falling off growth chart to lower percentage

- recheck measurement
- notify other HCP (nutritionist/MD)
- parent- family education
