13
Q

what is the process for the egg and sperm release to fertilization.

A

The sperm must be deposited and transported to the site of fertilization. Egg transport — Ovulation must occur and the egg must be “picked up” by the tube. Fertilization and embryo development — Union between the sperm and egg must result.

Q
  • Size of ova (eggs) of different species and why (for example chickens)
A

17
Q
  • Seed dispersal mechanisms:
A

wind, insects

18
Q

flower reproduction process

A

Pollen is made in the anther then travels onto another flower and lands on the stigma where its sticky then goes down the style into ovaries.

19
Q

how does a baby grow and develop

A

Embryo, foetus

20
Q

how do living things grow?

A

by cell divison

21
Q

what are the two purposes of cell division

A

so it can produce new cells or to repair wounds

22
Q

five stages through a human life

A

childhood, adolescence, adulthood, middle age and old age

23
Q

what is fertaliisation

A

when sperm and ovum meet to create a new living thing

24
Q

what is a 14 week old embryo called

A

a foetus

25
Q

how does a baby get food, oxygen and remove its waste

A

by the umbilical cord

26
Q

What is the comparison between the number of eggs that is produced by an animal and the level of care given by the mother?

A

Birds and mammals produce fewer eggs than other animals. Young birds and mammals generally dependent on their parents for food, warmth and protection from their enemies. Which increases the survival for the young.

27
Q

how are fruits formed

A

After the ova has been fertilised and the seeds develop, the petals, sepals and stamens of the flower fall off. The ovary becomes a fruit with seeds inside it (or sometimes on the outside of it eg. a strawberry.) in some fruits such as apples, the wall of the ovary thickens to form an edible fruit.

28
Q

four main methods of seed dispersal

A
  1. The seeds fall out of the fruit and are carried by the wind
  2. Animals eat the fruit and poo it out
  3. Some seeds are sticky so they get caught in the fur of animals, the seeds can be spread many kilometers away from the adult plant
  4. Fruit explodes throwing out the seeds
