What are the principles of growth?
Principles of growth- Increase in quantity such as height, as height increases so does weight, growth is continuous, however the rate is not smooth.
There may be rapid periods of growth in infancy and puberty which is why there’s differences in growth rates of people who are the same age.
The growth rate also differs in boys and girls
Growth rates also differ in parts of the body, the head circumference grows more rapidly in the first months of life as opposed to other parts

Head to toes
In to out, control large movements before small ones
Same sequence, different rates

What may happen to a new-borns weight in the first few years of their life?
Healthy new-borns double their birth weight in the first 4-5 months and triple it after a year, by age two the baby will be half their adult height.
How may growth measurements help a health visitor?
Growth measurements can help a health visitor monitor a child’s growth as well as identify complications such as slow development and the child being overweight

How may developmental norms help in a childs development?
Having developmental norms helps develop expectations for a childs development, can easily recognise delayed development
What are the two types of motor skills?
Fine motor skills and gross motor skills
Fine motor skills- small muscles
Gross motor skills- large muscles, e.g lim bs
When do gross motor skills beging to develop
After birth
