Social groups
Member of a triad who’s attempts to resolve conflict between the two other actors in the group
Mediator
Member of a triad who benefits from the conflict between the other two members of the group
Tertius gaudens
Role of a member of a triad who intentionally divides it wedged between the other two actors in the group

Triad
Group characterized by face-to-face interaction, a unifocal perspective, lack of formal arrangements or roles, and a certain level of equality
Small group
Group that is similar to a small group but is multi functional
Party
Group characterized by the presence of a formal structure that mediates interaction and, consequently, status
Large group
Social groups, such as family or friends, composed of enduring, intimate face-to-face relationships that strongly influence the attitudes and ideas of those involved
Primary group
Groups marked by impersonal, instrumental relationships (those existing as a means to an end)
Secondary group
Powerful group, most often the majority
In-groups
Stigmatized or less powerful group, the minority
Out-groups
Group that helps understand or make sense our position relative to other groups
Reference groups
Set of relations, a set of dyads, held together by ties between individuals
Social networks
Set of stories that explains our relationship to the other members of our network
Tie
Sum of the stories contained in a series of ties
Narrative
Degree to which ties are reinforced through indirect paths within a social network
Embeddedness
Gap between network clusters that would benefit from having the gap closed
Structural hole
Information, knowledge of people or ideas, and connections that help individuals enter preexisting networks or gain power in them
Social capital
Notion that relatively weak ties often turn out to be quite valuable because the yield new information
Strength of weak ties
Any social network that is defined by a common purpose and has a boundary between its membership and the rest of the social world
Organization
Shared beliefs and behaviors within a social group
Organizational culture
Ways in which power and authority are distracted within an organization
Organizational structure
Constraining process that forces one organization to resemble other organizations that fact the same set of environmental conditions
