Transition stage of group development
Grows from the initial striving for dominance, control, and power over others; Conflicts arise as pecking order is established; defensiveness, resistance to the process, and anger are common
Working stage of group development
Group cohesiveness has been established; trust developed; group members are open to sharing feelings and expressing opinions honestly; group rules have been established and members willingly follow; counselor focuses discussion and generalizes learning process to the world outside of group
Final stage of group development - termination of counseling
Helps members prepare to leave the group and become independent; group may dissolve as a whole when the purpose is met or members may leave individually as his/her purpose is met
