Gross 2 wk 1 Flashcards
Problems with CN 7 may cause loss of sensation to the face. Name the condition.
Bells Palsy.
Innervates primarily to the face and scalp.
Opthalmic Nerve (Branch of Trigeminal)
Innervates primarily the cheek and the area lateral to the orbit.
Maxillary Nerve (Branch of Trigeminal)
Innervates the chin and temporal region.
Mandibular Nerve (Branch of Trigeminal)
Sudden attacks of severe pain occurring in an area of sensory distribution of the Trigeminal nerve.
Often due to touch.
Trigeminal Neuralgia
Pathological contraction of the SCM.
Torticollis (Wryneck)
Sign of congestive heart failure or obstruction of the superior vena cava. May also be found in opera singers or bagpipe players.
Prominent External Jugular Vein.
Most important vascular triangle.
Carotid Triangle. Common carotid bifurcates here into the internal and external carotid arteries.
Bone often broken in strangulation. No articulation with any other bone.
Hyoid.
Contents of the carotid sheath.
Common carotid artery Internal carotid artery Internal jugular vein Vagus nerve Deep cervical lymph nodes
Greater Occipital Nerve
AKA Posterior Primary Ramus of C2. Supplies the occipital region.
Third Occipital Nerve
AKA Posterior Primary Ramus of C3. Supplies the upper part of the back of the neck.
Posterior Primary Ramus of C4.
Supplies the lower part of the back of the neck.
Lesser Occipital Nerve (C2)
Supplies the lateral part of the occipital region, posterior to the ear.
Great Auricular Nerve (C2, C3)
Supplies the angle of the mandible, and the area inferior to the ear. It accompanies the external jugular vein.
Transverse Cervical Nerve (C2, C3)
Supplies the anterior surface of the neck (the throat).
Supraclavicular Nerve (C3, C4)
Supplies the lateral surface of the neck and has a medial, intermediate, and lateral subdivision.
Ansa Cervicalis
Motor fibers that form a loop that supply the infrahyoid (strap) muscles.
Superior Root
From C1, or C1 and C2. This portion descends from the hypoglossal nerve to join the inferior root.
Inferior Root
From C2 and C3. This portion descends from cervical nerve branches to join the superior root.
Thyrohyoid nerve supply.
Exclusively from the C1 fibers thru the hypoglossal nerve.
Phrenic Nerve
From C3, C4, and C5. Motor to the diaphragm and sensory to some of the membranes of the thorax and abdomen. Found in the neck lying on the anterior surface of the anterior scalene muscle.
Platysma origin.
Superficial fascia over the pectoralis major and deltoid muscles.
Platysma Insertion.
Lower border of the mandible and the angle of the mouth.
Platysma Nerve.
Cervical branch of facial nerve (CN VII).
Platysma Function.
Depresses the mandible and draws down the corner of the mouth.
SCM Origin.
Sternal head from the front of the manubrium and clavicular head from the medial third of the clavicle.
SCM Insertion.
Lateral surface of the mastoid process and lateral half of the superior nuchal line.
SCM Nerve.
Accessory Nerve (CN XI)
SCM Function.
Chief flexor of the head.
