What is the bony target for the greater palatine?
Greater palatine foramen
What is the soft tissue landmark for the greater palatine?
Slightly distal, approx. 1 cm medial to the 2nd molar, can palpate with cotton bud, junction of soft and hard palate at greatest angle of hard palate
What is the syringe orientation for a greater palatine?
Advance syringe from opposite side approx. 45 degrees
What is the needle depth for the greater palatine?
2-3mm
short needle 25mm
What amount of LA is deposited for a greater palatine block?
0.25 - 0.5ml (under ¼ of a cartridge) - see blanching
What is the target nerve of the GP?
The greater palatine
What structures are anaesthetized for the GP?
Palatal gingiva and mucosa of posterior 2/3 of the hard palate, ipsilateral to side of injection
What are the precautions/considerations for the greater palatine?
- will see tissue blanching
- can use pressure technique to minimise discomfort
How many planes do you aspirate in for the Greater Palatine?
2 plane, site of exit of greater palatine artery also
