“Steep chalk escarpment with areas of flower-rich downland, woodlands, tranquil valleys and ancient routes and villages”
What do Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) provide?
2770 jobs
£80 million from visits
55 million leisure visits per year
Missenden’s interconnectivity
Great Missenden is connected to central London by rail and serves as a home for thousands of daily commuters who work in London.
HS2 affect
Great Missenden is undergoing economic change as a result of exogenous factors. This includes the HS2 high speed trainline reducing the economic divide between North and South.
However this has lead to conflict. The HS2 line would bisect the AONB due to the route having lower costs for higher economic benefit.
This has also lead to excavation, tree clearance and traffic disruption. Locals have been directly affected with falling property prices, compulsory purchases and a decline in business.
