• Gatsby takes Nick into New York for lunch
• During the journey, Gatsby gives Nick information about his past, about his Oxford background and his medals he won in the war
• He reveals that he has a favour to ask Nick but says that Jordan Baker will inform him what it is
• This confuses Nick somewhat
• Nick is shocked that the other guest at lunch is Meyer Wolfsheim who fixed the World Series in 1919
• Gatsby leaves w/out even saying goodbye
• They bump into Tom Buchanan
• Nick meets Jordan Baker who tells him that Gatsby’s request is for Nick to invite Daisy over to his house along w Gatsby (unbeknownst to Daisy that Gatsby will be coming too)
• Jordan informs Nick that Daisy was in a relationship w Gatsby when she was 18 and he was a soldier stationed in Louisville
• When he had to leave Louisville and go to Europe, Daisy planned to run away and marry him. Her parents stopped her
• For a while, Daisy remained faithful to Gatsby but she became bored of waiting and began to date Tom Buchanan, a wealthy young man from a socially prominent family in Chicago
• Daisy accepts Tom’s marriage proposal and wrote Gatsby a letter informing him that their relationship was over
